ECONOMIC AND HEALTH CRISES: THE ESSENTIAL CHALLENGE
The Covid-19 pandemic has vividly exposed the extent of our dependence on a supposedly globalized economy, but which is actually concentrated in the Asian giant. Consistency in quality and the ability to deliver on time have become essential criteria for a weakened economy and have prompted us to permanently rethink our production and consumption methods.
This crisis becomes an opportunity to question our relationship to consumption in the long term. Promote short circuits and rediscover the quality of local and seasonal products. The ReBin Center, located in the town of Toffo, is one of the responses to the crisis in Benin. In the space of 4 months, more than 40 tons of organic compost were sold to local farmers, 3,000 farmed fish expected by January 2021 and the production of more than a ton of fruit and organic vegetables intended for the local market. All this thanks to the circular economy and sustainable management of our waste.
The circular economy is becoming another stimulus factor. Producing better and closer also meets the expectations of consumers, many of whom are ready to support the companies that will make this effort. We are convinced that this civic engagement will increase after Covid-19. Buying local will become a necessity beyond civic engagement. Consumers will be the main players in reviving activity for many businesses. To meet essential needs in future crises, we will have to show agility and great responsibility towards society and the environment.
